Greetings All,

As I said in my message last night, I intend over
the next week or so to send a short series of
messages encouraging your ACTIVISM in the coming
months. Tonight I offer a few options toward
taking ACTION to stop, or at least call attention
to and protest against, upcoming executions. I
also RE-SEND one more message originally sent a few weeks ago. Read on!

NCADP EXECUTION ALERTS

The National Coalition issues an execution alert
action on every scheduled execution. Go to
http://www.ncadp.org/ get case background info
and suggestions on points to make in your letters
to relevant parties. Remember that while a
computer generated e-mail letter IS a tangible
action, your effort carries more weight if sent
via regular mail, and even more so if it is
short, to the point, personal, and hand written
or otherwise clearly unique. And once you write
your letters, please urge others you know to do
the same. It can make the difference....

THE FOR WHOM THE BELLS TOLL CAMPAIGN

Simply send a message from the address you want
to subscribe to
<tollbells-subscribe at yahoogroups.com> to receive
a (usually) weekly list of all scheduled
executions considered to be serious dates in the
U.S. This compendium is intended to support
communities participating in the For Whom the
Bells Toll campaign
(http://www.curenational.org/~bells/), but many
individuals find it useful as well. In addition
to naming the person to be killed we also name
the victims in whose name the (sometimes alleged)
murderer is to be exterminated. This list also
provides contact information for the Governor or
other relevant official with whom complaints should be lodged.

INDONESIA ACTION

We received this yesterday - Thanks Francisco!

>Hello, my name is Francisco Rodriguez- Letters
>and I am a medical student in Queensland,
>Australia. I am a recipient of CUADP emails and
>I regularly visit your site. Unfortunately, as I
>live in Australia I cannot be an active member
>of your organisation, but I often write letters
>of clemancy to Governors of states in the US. I
>would like to raise your attention to a very
>distressing incident in recent days whereby the
>'Bali nine'- a young (20 year old on average)
>group of Aussies, convicted of heroin smuggling,
>have been dealt some very hard justice. Four
>appealed against their life sentences, and as a
>result they were given death by firing squad.
>This rough and crude, arbitrary French
>derived legal system (the french have
>subsequently revised theirs long ago) goes to
>show the shocking state of human rights in the
>world's most populous muslim nation. I urge you
>to send around an email to recipients of your
>newsletter and send a quick message to the
>Indonesian ambassador to the United States:

MILITARY AND FEDERAL EXECUTIONS

Military and Federal executions are
approaching. CUADP has secured the following web sites:

http://www.militaryexecutions.org/
and
http://www.federalexecutions.org/

However, I have not had the time to maintain or
further develop these sites. I am looking for a
volunteer, or perhaps a team of volunteers, to
take a leadership role in building the usefulness
of these sites. If you are interested in
discussing this with me, send me a note at <abe at abolition.org>

LATE SUMMER READING & LISTENING - re-sent!

Greetings All!

One of my stipulations when I agreed to go on
Sabbatical in order to work in New Jersey is that
I cannot let the AbolitionWear program go
dormant. If you have visited
http://www.CUADP.org lately, then you have seen
the notice that a new on-line catalog with new
items is expected to be launched sometime around
September 10. Recipients of CUADPUpdate will
have the first opportunities to use the new site when it is ready!

But for now, I'd like to offer you some very
special deals on two NEW items that CUADP has a
limited supply of: The new book by Joan Cheever,
and the Dead Man Walking CD Reissue/Concert DVD
Package. Only 20 of each are available. Check this out:

BACK FROM THE DEAD: One Woman's Search For The
Men Who Walked Off America's Death Row, by JOAN CHEEVER

This new book was officially released in the U.S.
on July 2, the anniversary of Gregg v.
Georgia. Author Joan Cheever gave a talk about
her book and the story behind it that night as
part of the evening Teach-In series at the Fast &
Vigil. The film of that talk will hopefully be
available soon. In any case, the books didn't
show up until the next day, which is how CUADP
happens to have a case of hard backs.

I have yet to get to it, but my wife Beth is
reading the book and enjoying it very much. She
says Joan is a good story teller and there are
many interesting historical facts in the book.

NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO aired an interview with
Joan on Morning Edition Thursday morning:

>You can listen to the report at:
>Thursday, August 17, 2006
>
>On the Trail of Former Death Row Inmates
>
>Morning Edition, August 17, 2006 · Joan Cheever, author of Back from the
>Dead, followed former death row inmates who were released when the Supreme
>Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional in 1972.
>
>Cheever talks to Steve Inskeep about what she found.

The cover price is $24.95. CUADP will kick in
shipping for a minimum suggested donation of $25
(or more). You can get a better deal on
Amazon.com, but it would not be helping the
movement. See below for how to order!
