Dear Friends,

I hope this finds you well. Happy New Year!

In the wake of our victory here in New Jersey, I've had a little time
to breathe, enjoy my family (see
http://bonowitz.blogspot.com/2007/12/news-from-home-front.html), and
to take stock of the many projects I put on hold in order to focus my
full efforts on the work I was hired to do here in the Garden State.

While it is a great thing to have been involved with the NJ Abolition
victory, it is frightening to have worked myself out of a
job. Weighing heavily on my mind is the question of next steps for
me, and the organization I've been on sabbatical from, Citizens
United for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (CUADP).

It is a daunting task to pick up where I left off, and I'm fairly
certain that some projects will not be picked back up. But others
are ripe, and many new challenges are before us in this new phase of
the modern (post-furman) death penalty era. I'll continue to
reflect, and I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you might have.

One project that I cannot drop yet is CUADP's bank accounts. It's
been more than two years since the last fund raising effort for CUADP
general funds. If it had not been for the donors in CUADP's monthly
Sustainer program, I would have had to close the shop entirely. I
again send my sincere appreciation and thanks to the Sustainers and
to other donors who have helped in general or on the several projects
for which I have raised funds for recently.

Today I'm inviting contributions of o general operating funds in
order to help pay a few upcoming bills and to allow further
exploration of which projects to pick back up, which to drop
entirely, and which to start from scratch.

I'm writing in the hope that as a member of this list, whether or not
you are a past donor to CUADP, you will find yourself of a mind and
in a position to help CUADP at this time at whatever level is
comfortable to you.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me
directly. If you can help, see below. And in any case, I wish you
and yours all the best in 2008.

paz!
