Dear Friends,
I wanted you to hear it here first. If you were at the National
Coalition conference in San Jose, then you heard it announced
there. A formal announcement is expected tomorrow in the NCADP's
on-line affiliate newsletter, Lifelines. I've resigned from the
board of directors and accepted a staff position as Director of
Affiliate Support with the National Coalition to Abolish the Death
Penalty. I remain obligated to New Jersey into the start of March,
and then my family and I will move to the DC area. I expect to be
fully engaged at NCADP by the end of March. I am very excited by
this opportunity and look forward to serving our movement in new ways
and with better resources and direction then ever before.
What this means for CUADP remains to be seen at this point, except to
say that I really need to give 100% to this new position. As many of
you know, CUADP was started in 1997 to fill holes and provide
leadership in areas where there was none at that time. SO, I'm
contemplating what to do with the various web sites, this list,
AbolitionWear and other tangibles, in light of some debt yet to be
paid, and in full consideration that the history and legacy of our
efforts together these past 11 years should not be lost. I welcome
ideas and insights. I'll share more on the transition over the coming weeks.
For those of you who live in the DC area, I will soon be working in
an office near 17th & L, NW! Beth, Isaac and I are grateful for the
opportunity and excited to be moving to the area. We welcome advice
and assistance in figuring out exactly where in the area we end up.
Virginia, or Maryland? We're leaning towards Maryland, but we have
not yet written off Virginia entirely. Our primary thinking is that
we want to end up in an area not-to-far from where Isaac will attend
school. He'll be ready for preschool next year. So, what do you
know about schools in the area? We'll consider a private school.
House for Rent? That said, we have some time to figure out the
school thing, but we must move to the area in March. We expect to
rent for up to a year while we search for the right house for
us. So, we're looking for affordable three or four bedrooms with a
fenced yard for the dog, walkable to a metro line. Any ideas?
So, that's the news. More soon. Thanks to all who have supported
CUADP over the years, and for continued support in this time of transition.
