Greetings All!
Big News - On Friday, Jeb Bush announced a new
moratorium on executions in Florida and a Federal
judge extended one in California - both having to
do with the constitutionality of lethal
injection, so they will likely be
short-lived. Nevertheless, the killing is put
off. Read more about it
here: http://www.fadp.org/news/newsindex.html
Now sure would be a good time for that letter to
the editor, pointing out how this exhibits just
one more failure in the system we call "capital punishment..."
Now, for those of you still shopping for the
holidays or other occasions, please consider the following several items:
#1 - If you are shopping for *anything* on-line,
start by clicking through the Amazon.com link at
the bottom of www.CUADP.org and a percentage will
help support the movement to abolish the death penalty.
#2 - IF you order by TUESDAY night, on or before
Wednesday CUADP can ship any in-stock
AbolitionWear item or the below-described SPECIAL OFFERS!
#3 - NOTE THAT THERE IS SOME NEW STUFF! See
www.abolitionwear.org for the still in progress
new AbolitionWear web page. The page has been
stuck at its current level of assembly because I
have been to busy to finish it and CUADP's main
volunteer web designer's mother had a stroke, so
she's been a bit tied up. Nevertheless, you can
see NEW shirts, stickers and buttons at
www.ABOLITIONWEAR.org and you can order them
using the secure donation form at
https://www.compar.com/donation/donateform.html
by USING THE COMMENTS SECTION to describe what you want.
#4 - SPECIAL ITEMS! SUPPLY IS LIMITED!
SIGNED COPIES of the new book by Joan Cheever,
and the Dead Man Walking CD Reissue/Concert DVD
Package. Only 12 of each are available. Check this out:
BACK FROM THE DEAD: One Woman's Search For The
Men Who Walked Off America's Death Row, by JOAN CHEEVER
This new book was officially released in the U.S.
on July 2, the anniversary of Gregg v.
Georgia. Author Joan Cheever gave a talk about
her book and the story behind it that night as
part of the evening Teach-In series at the Fast &
Vigil. The film of that talk will hopefully be
available soon. In any case, the books didn't
show up until the next day, which is how CUADP
happens to have a case of hard backs.
NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO aired an interview with Joan on Morning Edition:
>You can listen to the report at:
>Thursday, August 17, 2006
>
>On the Trail of Former Death Row Inmates
>
>Morning Edition, August 17, 2006 · Joan Cheever, author of Back from the
>Dead, followed former death row inmates who were released when the Supreme
>Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional in 1972.
>
>Cheever talks to Steve Inskeep about what she found.

shipping for a minimum suggested donation of $25
