Friends,

Great news for abolition this week!

New Jersey formally abolished the Death Penalty when Gov. Jon Corzine
enthusiastically signed the bill passed by the legislature. The
Governor praised and credited the hard work of New Jerseyans for
Alternatives to the Death Penalty, the New Jersey Catholic Conference
and the ACLU. Murder victim's family members, law enforcement,
religious leaders, civil rights groups, human rights groups and many
others contributed to this momentous acheivement.

Thre are Florida connections. Former FADP Executive Director Abe
Bonowitz was instrumental in the successful New Jersey campaign. As
Field Organizer for NJADP, he traveled the state, bringing thousands of
New Jerseyans on board for the decisive legislative advocacy campaign
to end the DP. Those who have worked with Abe in Florida are not
surprised at his hard work and success and we congratulate him and all
those who made this momentous breakthrough possible. Florida's own
Jeanne Rewa of Equal Justice USA worked many hours on the New Jersey
project.

And there's more...
Dec. 18, in an historic vote, the U.N. General Assembly passed a
non-binding resolution for a worldwide moratorium on the Death Penalty.

The tide is turning...

Floridians can end OUR Death Penalty. We can do what New Jerseyans
did. It takes effort, organizing and resources.

Please support FADP. We need your help. There is much to do.
Together we can make a safer, smarter, more humane Florida that
