TROY DAVIS UPDATE
Over 4,000 letters and cards asking for the life of Troy Davis to be
spared were hand-delivered to the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole
in Atlanta this week.
Troy Davis has a strong case for innocence. He is scheduled to be
executed on Tuesday, July 17 at 7PM at the Georgia Corrections facility
in Jackson.
The Georgia Board has said that they will hold his commutation hearing
on Monday, July 16.
Troy's family thanks the many Floridians and others who have sent
clemency requests to the Board.
Among those who have sent letters are Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Sr.
Helen Prejean, Former FBI Director William Sessions, Congresswoman
Shelia Jackson Lee, Mike Farrell, Bishop Kevin Boland, Bishop Wilton
Gregory, U.S. Senator Carol Mosely Braun, Jesse Jackson Jr., Murder
Victim's Families for Reconcilliation, Sam Millsap Jr., HHSA's Russell
Simmons, Rev. Joanne Dauphin, SCLC's Rev. Joseph Lowery, Amnesty
International USA Executive Director Lary Cox, ACLU, PUSH, GCPA and
many others including former trial witnesses against Troy who have
since recanted their testimony.

There is hope. In stark contrast to Florida's Executive Clemency
Board, the Georgia Board has held 50 capital case clemency hearings
since executions began again 30 years ago and has commuted 8 death
sentences to life in prison.

LETHAL INJECTION HEARINGS IN OCALA
Circuit Court hearings whether Florida's lethal injection procedures
violate the 8th Amendment ban on cruel and unusual punishment will
continue July 17 - 20 in Ocala at the Marion County Courtroom of Judge
Carven Angel.
CCRC attorneys for Death Row inmate Ian Lightbourne are challenging
Florida's method of execution. As ordered by the Florida Supreme
Court, the December 13, 2006 botched lethal injection of Angel Diaz is
being reviewed by the 5th Circuit Court.
Some startling revelations have come to light, including the revealing
of Gov. Jeb Bush's office as the source of the now discredited coverup
story to the press immediately following the botched Diaz execution.
New witness testimony that Diaz was "tortured to death" has also been
heard.
The Marion County Courthouse is located at 110 NW 1st Ave. in downtown
Ocala (352) 401-6700.
