Friends,

Great news!

The U.S. Supreme Court has granted a stay of execution for Earl Berry
in Mississippi. This sends a strong signal to state and lower federal
courts that executions should be postponed until the Supreme Court
issues it's ruling in the Baze vs Rees lethal injection case in the
spring/summer of 2008.

It is now very unlikely that Florida's planned execution of Mark Schwab
on November 15, 2007 will go forward.

We double-checked the numbers and, if there are no executions in
Florida this year, it will be our first year without an execution since
1982. That's 25 years of killing without a pause...until now.

What would it be like to live in a Florida without the horror of state
killings of captive prisoners? It is well-worth the fight...not only
for us, but for future generations of Floridians.

Now is the time to keep up the pressure to continue this "cease fire"
to examine the madness, as well as the method. More on this soon.

New York Times article on tonite's SCOTUS decision:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/30/us/31cnd-exec.html?hp

"For through violence, you may murder a murderer, but you can't murder
murder. Through violence you may murder a liar, but you can't establish
truth. Through violence you may murder a hater, but you can't murder
hate. Darkness cannot put out darkness, only light can do that." Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Shine the light,

---Mark
