Friends,
The previous newsletter contained some extraneous punctuation marks.
Let's try this again:
Several Death Penalty documentary film screenings coming soon. Last
week I watched the documentary, "At the Death House Door" at the
Sarasota FIlm Festival. An absolutely remarkable film. The audience
was deeply moved by the dramatic, true stories. After the screening
FADP and filmaker Peter Gilbert hosted a Q&A. Mary Lynn Canton, a
volunteer from Ft. Myers, was there to help distribute the new Florida
Death Penalty Factsheet.
A film screening is an easy and inexpensive way to enlighten others
about the Death Penalty. It provides a comfortable way to discuss the
facts and encourage action. If you would like to have a film screening
for a group, please let us know. We have access to a wide variety of
excellent, thought-provoking films.
1. "LOVE LIVED ON DEATH ROW"
WHEN: Sunday, April 20, 3:00 PM
WHERE: Ybor Festival of the Moving Image
HCC Performing Arts Ctr.
Ybor City, Tampa
http://www.yborfilmfestival.com/
"Love Lived on Death Row" is much more than an incredible story of how
violence tore a family apart and then their amazing reconciliation. It
is a story of surviving tragic loss, transformation, friendship, family
bonds, faith and how capital punishment affects family members of death
row inmates.
FADP will be joining filmaker, Linda Booker, for the Q&A following the
screening.
2. "THE EMPTY CHAIR"
WHEN: Friday, April 25th at 7:00 PM
WHERE: Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
4225 NW 34th Street
Gainesville
http://www.justiceproductions.org/images/discussion_guide.pdf
You are invited to view and discuss the film "The Empty Chair" at the
Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. "The Empty Chair" is a 42 minute
video in which murder victims' families confront loss and punishment.
Pizza will be served. We hope you can join us for fellowship, a lively
discussion and pizza!
3. "AT THE DEATH HOUSE DOOR"
WHEN: Wednesday, May 14, 8:00 PM
WHERE: Cafe Bohemia
937 Central Ave.
St. Pete
http://www.ifc.com/atthedeathhousedoor
This film follows the story of Caroll Pickett, who was spiritual
advisor to 95 executed prisoners in Texas. It also documents the
Chicago Tribune's crime reporters' investigation of one of those
executed, Carlos De Luna, who is now believed to have been innocent.
Event is free, as are food and refreshments. A discussion will follow
the screening. This film will also air on the IFC Channel on May 29 at
8pm.
