Friends,
18 months without a bureaucratic killing in Florida may be coming to an
end.
We will be posting a list of vigils for the July 1st scheduled
execution of Mark Schwab. We will also be updating the Florida vigil
list on the FADP website. If you are planning a vigil in your area,
please let us know so we send out the info to other Florida activists.
Stay tuned. FADP will be posting a new "TAKE ACTION" on our website.
Please take a moment to register you views on Florida's Death Penalty
and upcoming execution with the only person that decides whether or not
to sign Death Warrants...Gov. Charlie Crist.

MAY FLORIDA EVENT RECAP
FESTIVAL OF FAITH---The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orlando's Festival of
Faith was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando May 9
& 10. EJUSA's Jeanne Rewa and I helped the absolutely wonderful
members of Our Lady Of Lourdes Parish of Daytona Beach present their
theme of "Justice." We introduced many at the festival to the bell
that is tolled at each Florida execution. It was a very successful
event for creating awareness and interest in ending the DP.
TCADP ANNUAL MEETING---Tallahassee Citizens Against the Death Penalty
(TCADP) held their annual meeting on May 20. It was well-attended,
interesting and productive. Included was a 30 minute film from the
ACLU Freedom Files, "Freedom to Live." Jeanne Rewa of Equal Justice
USA joined FADP in a short presentation on organizing efforts in
Florida. For more see: http://tcadp.net/ (I am the one with the "Cujo"
red-eye effect).
NE FLORIDA REGIONAL ANTI-DP STRATEGY MEETING---The May 21st NE Florida
anti-DP Strategy meeting was also very productive and inspirational.
Along with planning outreach and awareness events, the group celebrated
their resounding success in collecting Florida anti-execution activist
sign-ons. The group's year-end goal of 100 FADP activist sign-on
sheets was blown-out, with 143 collected thus far. The NE Florida
strategy group has now targeted 300 sign-ons for 2008. (We will be
posting info soon on how you can obtain FADP sign-on sheets).
ST. AUGUSTINE DIOCESE FLA DP ARTICLE---

PEG MCINTIRE, OCT 2, 1910 - MAY 29, 2008---Margery D. "Peg" McIntire,
"Grandmother for Peace" and longtime Florida human rights activist
passed away on May 29. Her son, Jo and daughter-in-law, Sali were by
her side. Peg touched many lives and fought vailiantly for humanity,
justice and non-violence. Peg founded "Grandparents for Peace" and was
a key member of the Florida Coalition for Peace and Justice, as well as
Pax Christi. Together with Paul Achetko, she founded St. Augustine's
Earth Day event. She and Susan Bradley founded the St. Augustine Youth
Hostel and organized the local Toys for Tots program. Peg bravely
spoke out and took actions to end state killings in Florida and around
the world. She will be greatly missed. Her spirit lives on. More on
this extrordinary woman is available at her blog:
